I wholeheartedly believe in “The One”. I have received and reciprocated love from countless people, but no earthly love has compared to the one I find in my husband. There have been countless articles written in the Christian and secular world against the romanticized idea that one single person in all of time was meant for you. All include valid logic that explains why it isn’t Biblical, reasonable, or necessary to believe in The One. I have read and heard the opposing side of this argument, but I always come to the same conclusion: some couples were literally made for each other.
Perhaps I am wrong, and there is no “One” destined for each person. Perhaps it is true but some people never find them. Perhaps only some people were created with an intended soul mate. Does it matter to me? Not truly, because I am one hundred percent fulfilled in my marriage whether this idea is true or not.
I believe there are countless individuals in the present day that could give many different people a happy life. I do not believe that one magical person meant for another means an easy relationship absent of compromise, self sacrifice, and hardships. What I DO believe is that God has an ideal plan for our lives if we chooses to follow Him. Jeremiah 29:11 clearly states “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Unfortunately sin causes us to stray from His plan for us, and we often miss out on some of the wonderful things intended for us. If God has a perfect plan for us, its not a stretch to say that might include a specific intended life partner. We were each crafted uniquely by God, before conception (Psalm 139:13) and when we follow Him, “all things work together for the good”(Romans 8:28). God’s love for us is so deep and unfathomable, and one way that we can begin to comprehend it is through earthly marriage.
Yet there is something about when meeting “the right person at the right time” that makes you wonder how such an incredible person could be such a large part of your life. The ways that two people work together, bring out the best in each other, come out of the hardest struggles together stronger than ever, and be so absolutely perfect for each other, that there must be a stronger connection than just timing and life experience. Call it fate, God’s will, or what have you, but there is an unspoken feeling for those who truly find their soulmate, that makes you believe that they are The One.
To love someone truly, deeply and fully is the greatest gift God can bestow upon mankind. It shows us a glimpse of how complete His love is for us.
